Group members research and present topics which interest them, it can be a very eclectic mix. Amongst other subjects last year were The Exeter Blitz, The History of Taxes, Comparisons Between the 1665 Plague in London and Covid 19, Newton Abbot 100 Years Ago and William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke.
We began this year with a fabulous talk on The Siege of Mafeking - A Woman's Perspective, as recorded in a member's Great, Great Aunt's diaries, and in February a well-researched presentation on The Isles of Scilly; Wars, Lighthouses and Shipwrecks. In March and April we were given An Alternative View of Medieval Monarchs and in May we were off to Jordan to learn about the History and Wonders of Petra.
Next Meeting is Wednesday 10th June - when Linda Westaway will be telling us about 'Alice Hawkins and Other Suffragettes & Suffragists'.
In August we go on a visit. Last year we went to St Nicholas' Priory, the oldest building in Exeter and this year we are going to Great Fulford on our usual meeting day Wednesday 12th August.
